POSITION: Executive Director
COMPANY: First Responder Support
REPORTING TO: Board of Directors
STATUS: Independent Contractor
COMPENSATION: This is a contracted position under agreement with the First Responder Support (FRS) Board of Directors. The Executive Director will serve as an independent contractor and not as an employee of FRS. Compensation, scope of work, and performance expectations will be defined within a formal contract established and approved by the Board.
LOCATION: Boone County, Missouri Resident; flexible schedule, fully remote
REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to attend board meetings each month, meet with the FRS Board of Directors as needed.
START DATE: First day of the month, following contract approval

ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
We are seeking a collaborative, mission-driven Executive Director to lead operations, strategy, and growth on a part-time basis (estimated an average of 20 hours/week). You will:

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Work with the Board to develop and execute the organization’s strategic plan.
Assist Board in budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal sustainability.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and nonprofit best practices.
Program Development & Oversight
Manage core programs – Resilience Scholarships, community events (e.g., seminars, Shop with a Hero, You Have My Heart Gala, etc.).
Identify emerging needs within the first responder community and lead new program development.
Track and report program outcomes and impact.
Fundraising & Donor Relations
Design and implement diverse fundraising strategies: recurring giving (e.g., the “$9.11 monthly program”), grant writing, sponsorships, and donor outreach.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
Plan and execute signature fundraising events and awareness campaigns.
Outreach & Communications
Serve as the public face of First Responder Support – engaging with media, stakeholders, and community partners.
Lead communications through social media, newsletters, websites, and public forums.
Promote events like Resilience Seminars and other community awareness initiatives.
Operations & Administration
Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, logistics, and staff or volunteer coordination.
Serve as the primary contact for inquiries and communications (via email, phone, or contact forms).
Support Board meetings, reporting, and administrative tasks.
Role Requirements/Experience
Demonstrated leadership in nonprofit management, especially in mental health, emergency services, or community support.
Fundraising experience – from grassroots campaigns to grants/donor cultivation.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
Strategic thinker with strong organizational and operational abilities.
Collaborative mindset and ability to build partnerships across sectors.
Ability to operate freely across Boone County.
Understanding of mental health/wellness systems or emergency response dynamics.
Skills in digital communications – social platforms, newsletters, content creation.
ABOUT FIRST RESPONDER SUPPORT
First Responder Support is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to uplifting Boone County’s first responder community – firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, and law enforcement.
We promote goodwill between first responders and the communityby facilitating opportunities for first responders to engage with the community. Such opportunities are diverse and broad and may include events and programs such as toy drives, shop with a cop events, community first aid, opiate awareness or other clinics.
We increase awareness of the realities facing first respondersby communicating information about the stressors and challenges faced by first responders and the people who serve. We do this in various ways including through informational videos, social media posts, online and in-person live discussions, and educational programs.
We provide relief to those who serve the community as first respondersby providing financial assistance to first responders (and their families) who experience loss and who are in need; and for substance abuse and mental health treatment and other treatment and wellness resources.
We provide support to those who serve the community as first respondersin many ways, including by hosting and sponsoring attendance at training conferences, developing and implementing comprehensive plans to address the needs of first responders who experience crises and critical incidents.
OUR MISSION
First Responder Support exists to promote goodwill between first responders and the community, increase awareness of the realities facing first responders, and provide relief and support to those who serve Boone County as first responders. Our current focus is on firefighters, EMTs, emergency telecommunications, and law enforcement officers working for Boone County and for municipalities in Boone County.
